Celebrating the Year of Mary in schools in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle
Year of Mary
The theme of World Youth Day 2017 was taken from Our Lady’s song of praise, the Magnificat, ‘The Mighty One has done great things for me’. The Pope has chosen to focus on Mary for the next two years’ World Youth celebrations, culminating in Panama in 2019. Francis has asked young people to journey with Mary, describing her as ‘a role model to be imitated’.
Consequently the Diocese have decided to continue their ‘Year of …’ plans with a Year of Mary plan. Each month is linked to a virtue shown by Mary and celebrates her many names.
Children at St Mark's will pray, celebrate liturgies, have a designated prayer station, work with Marian resources and share Marian artwork.

Over the past two years the renowned Statue of Our Lady of Walsingham has been visiting every Catholic Cathedral in England with a mission to pray for the Re-evangelisation and Conversion of England. We are looking towards the Dowry Tour finale when all England is invited to renew their own personal “YES” to the Lord Jesus through Parish communal acts of preparation for Consecration to Jesus through Mary and a pledge to commit to regular Confession, the praying of the Angelus, Rosary and prayerful invocation of the Saints and Martyrs of England as on-going prayer for our Nation and the entire British Isles.
It will be at St Mary's Cathedral over half term
